The Volvo 1800 is one of the sharpest looking European coupes from the 1960s, but it is generally overlooked by most enthusiasts because it lacked the levels of performance offered by other sports cars and the American muscle cars of the day.
The seller behind this eBay auction has sought to remedy that issue by taking the underpinnings of a 1992 Corvette and wrapping them in the curvaceous sheet metal of the diminutive Volvo. The result is the appropriately nicknamed Volvette.
Far from some sort of backyard hack job, the Volvette, which is titled as a 1992 Corvette, has been featured in Volvo magazines on multiple occasions and is reported by the seller as being “ready for many years of use and enjoyment”.
The seller also explains that all the original Corvette features are completely functional, including the HVAC controls, power windows, seats, stability controls, and so on.
The auction’s Buy-It-Now price might seem a little steep for a C4 Corvette, but the seller is quick to point out that the investment to build the car far exceeds the $45,000 price tag. Sweetening the deal a bit are new Avon M600 tires that measure 255/45/17 up front and 275/40/17 in the rear, mounted on new Corvette wheels.
The end result is a fairly convincing conversion, though elements of the roof and B-pillar do show the car’s true origins if inspected long enough. Still, it’s pretty cool to see what appears at first glance to be a Volvo with a clam shell hood.
So fellow gearheads, is this LT-1 powered Volvette worth the money?
