Duster To Dust: Classic ‘73 Rots Away To Nothing

We have all seen plenty of sad images of neglected, forlorn rides left to rot in fields and forests, forgotten and unwanted. But you would think that a garage or barn would spare a classic old car the worst that exposure can do to a car, right? Well as this next sad photograph shows, if the garage itself is an incubator for moisture, than you could literally rust your ride away to nothing but a heap of oxidized metal.

There is precious little information as to what happened to this 1973 Gold Duster to cause it to rot away so completely, but this picture from the MoparBlog is just too incredible not to share. Have you ever seen a worse case of rust?

The mystery surrounding this incredibly neglected Mopar only heightens our interest, as we can’t help but wonder if there has ever been a case of the rusties that literally ate away an entire car. We’ve seen rusted and buckled frames before, don’t get us wrong, and we’re no strangers to a rusty roof or quarter panels.

But this is next-level oxidation, as the Duster has literally come apart at the seems. Apparently this ‘73 Mopar was left in a moist concrete garage that locked the moisture in. So despite being sheltered from the elements, Mother Nature still found a way to ruin this ride, and the result isn’t only unrestorable, but it is downright painful to see. Sure, a ‘73 Gold Duster was never a collectible car, but no matter the classic ride, it always hurts to see something so completely and utterly destroyed.
