You read that right folks. Allow us to explain the chain of events here that makes this headline possible. In this clip brought to us by the aptly named Urban Hillbilly Videos, we’re given a front row seat to the catastrophic events that occurred during the Street Drags at the Small Town Weekend Event in El Reno, Oklahoma, recently.
As the name implies, these are essentially street races that are (apparently) overseen by some sanctioning body, but whomever was at the helm of this brilliant idea would probably wish to remain anonymous.
Here we have a tube chassis Corvette with a blown big block and nitrous staging for a run on a “track” which is essentially unprepped and definitely not designed for the rates of travel this Corvette is about to embark on. Interestingly, there’s no clock and no other car in the second lane, so it would appear our driver is really digging deep here just for the hell of it.
And that’s where things go wrong. As our hero careens down this warbly surface street, he crests a hill well in excess of 100 mph and almost immediately pitches sideways, taking out a telephone pole in the process before overturning, briefly bursting into flames, and coming to rest just in front of a tank at the local American Legion hall.
Incredibly the driver managed to car away from the incident with no injuries, but the Corvette, as you can see in the clip, did not fair quite as well. Think they’ll be running this one again next year?
