Our friends over at Jalopnik.com have started a section on their site dedicated to the those poor car souls that, exposed to the elements on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, have lost their battle with rust and are just rotting away in people’s yards. They call this section “Found Off the Street.” For their latest find, Jalopnik writers were surprised to find a ’62 Buick Invicta. True to its Latin-derived name, meaning unconquerable or invincible, this particular Invicta is in excellent condition and has had a rust-free existence.
The Invicta was found in an industrial park with a “For Sale” sign on it. The only thing on the car that screams aftermarket are the Torque Thrust II wheels. The obviously cared for Buick seems to have been garaged most of its life. With only 67,000 miles on the odometer, speculation can be made that the car was used only for summer vacations.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Invicta, this Buick was basically a 401 V8 engine in a Le Sabre body. It fell in between the Le Sabre and the Electra in Buick’s lineup as the “sporty” option, sporting 280 horsepower. Originally debuted in 1959, the Invicta as we know it was replaced in 1963 by the Wildcat. The Invicta name was used until 1964 on some Buick station wagons.
It’s nice to see that not every car found off the road has fallen victim to mistreatment and inadequate storage. If you’re interested in owning this Invicta, it can be yours for $13,500. Especially along the Cape, this car could be a nice timeless addition to a vacation home or summer trip.
