There seems to be no escaping new coverage on the latest F&F movie, and what we have for you Ford fans is a real treat –or a real let down, depending on your opinion of the early Ford Maverick. That’s right, for those of you who still haven’t gotten around to seeing the latest installment; Ford’s ‘70s sub-compact makes a brief cameo appearance as Han’s mode of transportation in Rio.
Dennis McCarthy, the same guy who was in charge of building all of the cars in the previous two movies had put together a total of two of these things for Fast Five. As both were cosmetically identical, and powered by hopped-up 302s, one was used as a beauty car (really?) and the other was a stun car- minus a windshield.
The cars come complete with manufactured age (sort of rat roddish), Maverick Grabber hoods and spoilers, and the same 18-inch wheels we saw on the ’72 Gran Torino GT used in the previous film. We ran across further information and a closer look with a video, courtesy of the folks at Edmunds Inside Line and Autoholics.
