War is Hell. There is no other way to put it, and the past decade has seen America embroiled in two bitter conflicts on the other side of the globe. Many noble sons and daughters of America have put their lives on the line in Iraq and Afghanistan, only to return home to a country where jobs are few and far between for war veterans. It is almost criminal that our nation’s bravest are often left unemployed following their tour of duty.
Thankfully, there are projects like The Road Home that are helping veterans find jobs in careers that love. Hemmings Auto Blog reports that The Road Home project is looking to find recent Iraq or Afghanistan war veterans looking to start a career in the automotive restoration business, linking these veterans with shops looking to hire.
The premise behind The Road Home project is simple. With so many veterans returning home, and so many cars needing restoration, it should be easy to meet in the middle and get some war heroes some good paying jobs doing something they love. So far veterans and shops across the country have signed up, but there is still a dearth of participants on both ends.
So Hemmings (and now us) are asking you readers to call up your local shops, clubs, and veterans and try to get them involved. So far the number of vets far outweighs the shops, and Hemmings has a long list of where people and shops are needed to participate. We think this is a very noble cause, one worth promoting across the Internet, so don’t be shy.
These guys and gals laid it all on the line in service to the country; the least we can do to thank them is try to get them a job. Americans helping Americans, that is what we love to see. If you think you can help, check out TheRoadHomeUSA.org for more details.
