The rumblin’ and cackling of a V8 echoed through the stands as this Chevy Nova SS rolled into the staging lane. Her kill switch was engaged and she rocketed down the quarter mile to an ET of 8.55 seconds.
Nicknamed PetroNova this nitrous Chevy Nova drag car was spotted by YouTuber BigKleib34 racing at the Cecil County’s Street Car Shootout. He captured two of this Nova’s passes.
The first pass the Nova ran an ET of 8.55 @ 158.39 MPH besting a Camaro by just 0.01 of a second. On the second pass this super Nova hopped into the right lane and turned an ET of 8.54 @ 159.43 beating a Grand National that jumped the gun and fouled by 0.02 seconds.
The third generation Chevy Nova made its debut during the 1968 model year. It was a compact Musclecar and despite its small size it received 15 different powertrain options ranging from an I-4 engine, to a few I-6 engines to several V-8 mills. The big 8’s ranged from the 307 to the 396 and the 402 (the 396 bored out). The Nova SS included a base Chevy 350 rated at 295 horses along with a heavy duty suspension and several other options while an upgraded 350 horsepower or 375 horsepower 396 engine could be installed.
The owner of this Chevy Nova SS has kept his performance specs classified. We have no idea what lies underneath the hood but we can honestly say that we are impressed with the performance. What mill do you think he is hiding underneath that hood?
