When you hear the term big booty, a number of things may pop into your head. For many, I’m sure the beloved early ‘90s song, “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-A-Lot comes blaring into your heads, as it does mine. For our friends over at RideLust.com, the term big booty refers to something a bit different than girls with “round things in your face.” In fact, big booty to them refers to wide-body cars that have been molded to have large rear ends themselves.
Trans Am racing was very popular in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. This is the racing that put muscle and pony cars on the map. Widened wheel housings and flared fenders were very common to see on the race cars.
While the wide bodies of these cars were a neat change from every-day cars, it also served the purpose of being able to fit wider tires on the cars for racing. More and more pro-touring fans have been modifying their classic muscle cars to have a wider stance, reminiscent of the Trans Am race cars. Even new muscle car remakes are getting some wide-body makeovers.
Over at RideLust, they have images of ten wide-body “bad boys.” While some of these cars really catch your eye, others we’re not so sure of. Making any car into a wide-body definitely changes the stance and overall look of the vehicle.
While wide-body modifications can be pulled off on old-school Mustangs, Corvettes and Novas if it is done right, widening the body of a Fox-Body Mustang or a Datsun 240Z is a bit much for me but still made the list.
Go on over and check out the full list of wide-body cars. While some of them don’t have much widening done to them, others look like completely different vehicles. While wide-bodies have to be done just right for me to really like them, I must say that the RTR-X Mustang is probably the best wide-body job on a muscle car I’ve seen.
