Nostalgia is a powerful force in the auto industry, especially among American car buyers. Memories of youthful indiscretions behind the wheel of powerful American car can compel even the most level-headed businessman to throw caution to the wind and splurge on the car of his dreams.

Perhaps this is why Chrysler has decided to celebrate the arrival of a brand new Viper vehicle with a nostalgic model painted in classic colors. Yup, Chrysler is debuting the 2013 SRT Viper in blue with white stripes at this week’s Pebble Beach event.

The 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition comes in this classic color combination. In addition, the Launch Edition with a few extra exclusive features like five-spoke aluminum wheels and a serialized dash plaque for those lucky few. The wheels and color evoke the same presense the Viper GTS had during the 1996 launch of its 2nd-generation model. It also wore this same outfit during the 3rd-generations coming-out party ten years later.

But in a nod towards the future, the Viper’s new mascot, “Stryker”, will be featured prominently on the steering wheel. And with a new 8.4 liter V10 engine making an incredible 640 horsepower, the new SRT Viper certainly lives up (and indeed, exceeds) the performance credentials of its predecessors.

There is something about this classic Viper look that really tugs at our heartstrings. What’s not to love?
