Video: Replica Viper Has Two Less Cylinders and Twice The Horsepower

When referring to something that is a “swap insanity”, one would probably use this replicated Dodge Viper with a twin-turbocharged LSx swapped engine as their example. As car enthusiasts, we all know an engine swap is a task in itself to complete. But what about replicating a completely different vehicle, while performing that swap?

hallenborgsviper057GRIt’s quite obvious that the work load is basically doubled at that point. But for car enthusiasts like ourselves, and the owner of this replicated LSx swapped Viper, Jonas Hallenborg, we never view building our dream car as a daunting task. We only see a blank canvas: one that we fill with our own interpretation of art. Hallenborg comments that the only goal of this build was to have fun, educate others on replicating the swap for themselves, and to take the car to as many car shows and events as possible.

In addition to that, the car was also built for the occasional track day using a twin-turbocharged LS1 engine, which was bored and sleeved to 427 cubic-inches. The replica Viper body is constructed from fiberglass, and was made by an aftermarket company in Sweden to fit over Hallenborg’s C4 chassis. The swap continues with a T56 6-speed manual transmission, and combined with the use of E-85 fuel using a Nira Motorsports i3+ standalone ECU, the car makes an incredible 1,048 rear wheel horsepower at 21.5 pounds of boost. Since we’re not really Viper experts, and from the photos the car is such a good replica, if we were lead to believe this were an authentic Viper, we probably wouldn’t even question that. From the images Hallenborg has provided, the swap he performed looks completely dead on.

Hallenborg has provided a lot more information on his website, including before and after, as well as progress pictures you can review for yourself. Keep in mind that the website is in Swedish, however, most internet browsers do have an option to translate the page to English. You can visit Hallenborg’s website here to find more information no the swap.
