These days money is tight for many people, and when things get desperate enough there are elements within our society that turn to crime to make ends meet. While we don’t normally advocate robbing a bank, Hollywood has made a habit out of glorifying criminals “doing it for the right reasons.” Criminals like Fast and Furious’s Dominic Torreto, played by Vin Diesel.
With the latest Fast and Furious movie, Fast Five, hitting theaters Friday, Autotopias gathered together an elite group of automobiles from around the world and asked; what is the best getaway vehicle?
The array of vehicles is as diverse as the many countries they hail from, and all of them (except the cargo van) have had some kind of aftermarket tuning. There’s a Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black Series, a Nissan 370Z from the movie, a Heintz supercharged Mustang GT 5.0, a BMW M5, a Tesla Roadster, and the aforementioned Ford cargo van. To figure out the best vehicle to get away from a bank heist, Autotopias set a baseline around the track in a Dodge Charger police car built by Team Wu. The charger set the pace at 5 minutes and 56 seconds.
So how did American muscle do? Not so hot. The supercharged Mustang’s drivers managed to take more than twice as long to get around the track, probably because they were screwing around rather than actually racing. Way to represent, losers. In the end, the video came down to a choice between two BMW’s and a Mercedes. Which is bull crap if you ask us, because the Nissan GT-R at the test actually had the fastest time (but forgot the money.) Anyways, even though American muscle loses (this time) the videos are still very entertaining and a good waste of 20 minutes of your day.
