The Trans-Am Racing Series made waves when in automotive racing. This road racing-series was started in 1966 in the heat of the pony car wars and pinned factory muscle cars, turned race cars, against one another. It was during the Golden Era of Trans Am racing that Sam Posey made a name for himself, racing his Trans Am Dodge Challenger.
Recently, Posey’s Challenger made an appearance at the Vintage Trans Am event in Sonoma, California. Thanks to SpeedHunters for bringing us pictures of the Challenger.
If you’ve ever seen a vintage Trans-Am race car, you know that they are the epitome of muscle car racers. True to their roots, Trans Am cars maintained their wide muscle car stance. However, the interiors of the cars were gutted except for a race seat and shifter.
Posey’s Trans Am Challenger has been maintained and is in excellent condition. It still has its metal chin spoiler, headlight covers and side pipes. It even has the original Minilite wheels. In true Trans-Am Series fashion, the Challenger still has its 303cui engine in it. The rules of the series required 340cui small-blocks to be de-stroked, making them 303cui engines.
Posey’s Trans Am Challenger is gorgeous. It makes us thankful that vintage Trans-Am racing has made a come back, creating race events for classic Trans-Am cars once again.
