If you’ve seen any car movies you’ve probably seen Smokey and the Bandit. In this movie, the Bandit-Burt Reynolds- is hired to escort a trailer full of beer across the county line.
He does this with the help of his beloved car, a ‘77 Trans Am Special Edition- at least that’s how it’s portrayed.
The car was actually a ‘76 transformed to look like the new ‘77 model. Recently, Autoholics’ writer Tim Lawrence found a ‘76 Trans Am SE in excellent shape.
The Trans Am sits in a show room in Albany, Oregon. It is owned by Bob Symons, the original and only owner of the car.
Although it is 35 years old, the car is still in original condition complete with the original drivetrain, paint and graphics.
It is uncertain what kind of place Symons owns, but the Trans Am sits on display there when it’s not being shown at local car shows or events.
It’s great to see that these iconic Birds are still out and about, especially ones that are completely original. This was definitely a great find by Lawrence and we thank him for sharing it with us.
