Della Domingo - SEMA PR Director

This week’s podcast show guest is Della Domingo, the PR Director of SEMA, and in our interview we discuss everything ELSE that SEMA does aside from the annual convention show in Las Vegas in November.

The SEMA organization, which stands for “Speed Equipment Manufacturers Association” was originally founded in 1963 to help small hot rod parts manufacturers bind together and help each other grow their businesses.

Many of the participants in the early hot rod parts days were not large corporations, but simply guys making speed parts for their own cars, in their own garages, and on their own time. They had little to no business experience, and as the hot rod industry picked up steam they organized SEMA as a way to help each other grow, give each other business help, network, set standards on products for motorsports, etc.

Today SEMA has become far larger than it started (thankfully), but the mission remains the same; help automotive aftermarket businesses grow, network, and succeed. Della shared many of the ways that SEMA goes about this, but perhaps the biggest one at the moment is the large array of online training courses that they’ve created for small business owners in their “eLearning Center.”

Courses range from business management techniques and legal and public policy to utilizing social media for your business (a hot course right now). Better yet, many of the courses are FREE to try until mid July, 2011! For small business owners, or even big business owners, this information is a no-brainer to check out.
