This ’77 AMC Pacer was recently on eBay and reported by Jalopnik as most likely being the lowest mileage Pacer in existence. The car was purchased from Midville AMC /Jeep in Middle Village, Queens NY., driven home where it was parked in the garage and never driven again.
We don’t know the reason it was parked and never driven, maybe someone thought it might be worth money someday. We’re pretty sure after seeing this story the rumors will fly as to why it was never driven.
The car itself has only 12.2 miles on the odometer and it has all its original parts intact. It was delivered with a 258 cubic inch six cylinder engine, automatic transmission, and air conditioning.
Even the battery is original, but it will not hold a charge, the current owner says it will run and drive with a jump start but he didn’t want to touch or change anything on the car so that its new owner would receive it the way it was found.
He has left the car unwashed with 34 plus years of dust on it to show how authentic and rare a find this is.
The Pacer when it was introduced by AMC was not a huge success as far as sales and popularity was concerned, it was labeled the Fishbowl on wheels by many. It ranked right up there with the Ford Pinto, and a Yugo.
This ultra low mileage example did not meet its reserve when the auction ended on June 18th, even though the money was at almost $15,000. So maybe it still hasn’t gained as much popularity as expected, even with only 12 miles on the clock.
One thing is true, whoever buys it will definitely draw a crowd where ever they bring it. Another really weird and probably useless fact about the AMC Pacer is that the right and left doors are not the same length as found on most cars, I guess AMC figured you couldn’t see both sides of the car at the same time.
