There was a common denominator in the winners circle and atop the qualifying charts at the recent NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing at Route 66 Raceway, and that was Vortech Superchargers. Vortech-equipped racers put on a dominating performance at the year’s biggest event, with three class wins, a runner-up, and a new, unofficial record for good measure.

Leading the charge was Andy Manson, hot off his first 275 Drag Radial victory in Maryland just a couple of weeks prior. Manson and his ’96 Mustang, sporting the V-24 Xi-Trim blower, recorded a weekend best of 7.63 seconds at 183.84 mph on his way to a second straight victory over Brad Medlock in the final, recording a 7.74 at 177.63.

In Xtreme Street, veteran Bob Kurgan blasted to a 7.814 at 178.35 mph – the quickest pass in Xtreme Street history – in his Vortech sponsored Mustang to qualify #1. This marks the fourth race in a row in which Kurgan has topped the Xtreme Street field, and the third out of the last four that he’s bettered the all-time class elapsed time mark. Kurgan’s mount features Vortech’s Xi-Trim supercharger unit.

Dan Baumann not only laid down the quickest pass ever in the NMRA’s Real Street category, but he also took home the Super Bowl hardware. His V-! T-Trim supercharger-equipped Fox body scorched the Joliet quarter mile in 9.189 seconds at 147.29 during qualifying.

Continuing the trend, Brian Mitchell garnered NMRA EFI Renegade honors with a final round 8.47 at 161.02 mph after qualifying atop the field at 8.380 seconds at 162.02. Mitchell has been utilizing the V-7 YSi-Trim blower for more than five seasons, propelling him to countless records, event wins, and championships.

And in the Super Stang eliminator, Terry “Beefcake” Reeves recorded top speed of the weekend in qualifying with his JT-Trim-equipped 2011 Mustang at 138.80 mph and ran a 10.32 at 136.26 in the final round to garner runner-up honors. Reeves’ weekend best elapsed time of 10.24 came in the semifinals.
