eBay Find Of The Day: ’74 Falcon XB GS Ute

We can bet you will never see one of these in the States again. Images: eBay Motors

With our recent fascination with everything Mad Max lately, we can’t get enough of the car that inspired the Interceptor, the Ford Falcon XB. What a lot of Americans don’t realize is that the Australian Falcon came in a variety of body styles, including a Ranchero-like vehicle that the Aussies refer to as “utes.”

Unlike the Ford ute’s rival the Holden Maloo (based on the Commodore/Monaro), the Falcon maintained its name across the range. Available in a variety of engine choices and trim levels, the Falcon utility offered something for everyone. This particular example managed to find its way into the state of Massachusetts, and after thirty-three bids, only managed to top out at non-selling $9k on eBay.

It was equipped with the 240hp 302cui V8 backed with a 4-speed manual, and came equipped with the mid-range GS (Grand Sport) option package and “Super Roo” trim group.

The ute maintains an all-stock configuration other than an aftermarket chambered exhaust system, and a set of Cragar S/S wheels. However the original wheels (which look similar to those found on a ’67-’68 Mustang GT), also come available with the car.

As a result of a recent restoration, the Falcon is completely clean and solid inside and out, and the seller claims it sits covered in the garage during the winter and all otherwise foul weather.

A good thing about these cars other than the obvious uniqueness is the fact that their mechanically similar to their American counterparts, so anything you would need to maintain the engine in your Aussie Falcon is available over the counter of your local parts store.  If you want to own something a little different than everyone else, then you need to jump on this one.
