Lately, we’ve seen some high dollar cars come across our desks, and most of these cars are found at high-end restoration shops or the big auction houses, like Barrett-Jackson or Mecum. We expect to see a quarter million dollar car show up, and part of each auction we also see the million-dollar-plus cars, like the Hemi ‘Cuda convertibles.
Sometimes the other standby, eBay Motors, will peddle the classics for a ridiculous dollar amount (ridiculous to most of us, anyway). We gawk and drool at the cars, with plans to purchase PowerBall tickets next time around so we can claim ownership to the stunning rides that sometimes cost as much as a small home.
Then there’s Craigslist. You know, the site that is well known for ranting and raving, buying companionship for a couple dozen “roses”, and people giving away free animals for a small homing fee of $200-500. You can also find love (and certain communicable diseases that the Craigslist staff warns you about), furniture, tools, equipment, and the one category that is probably the only category frequented regularly by gearheads: Cars For Sale.
Often times, the car that we look at on Craigslist is in need of some work, other times it’s a pregnancy that forces the sale, or an unfinished project car. This time, however, we came across a 1970 Boss 429 Mustang that is “95% original” and is a claimed “one of one” in Grabber Blue with a white interior (seriously??). Curiously, however, the ad is listed in Central Los Angeles with Vancouver, Canada, in parenthesis. The asking price? This Best of Show winner from the Tradex show will only set you back $250,000.
But keep in mind, he doesn’t need to sell it, he just wants to, so no low ballers, and serious buyers only. Are you game to take a chance at a quarter-million dollar pony and add it to your stable? It’s a beautiful car, but is it worth that much? And would you believe it to be a one of one?
