Call it what you want as it may raise some eyebrows and shake some heads, but this custom coupe may have taken it one step too far. Posted on Hemmings, check out this 1939 Mercury Coupe Convertible, which is an oddity that speaks for itself.
Although this car is up for sale, it is questionable if this weird custom will ever step off the sale block. Heck, even the post itself has us questioning what it is since it is listed as a 1939 Ford Convertible, but described as a 1939 custom Mercury in the description. From the purple paint to the odd design choices, this Mercury looks like a botched Hot Wheels die cast design.
Configured as a front-wheel drive, we are in disbelief as to what happened to this Mercury. It clearly does not resemble its previous self as it received a complete overhaul that looks like a cross between a Chevy Lumina and a Chrysler PT Cruiser. Why ruin the prestige of a 1939 Merc by doing this?
Claimed to be easy and fun to drive, it’s hard to imagine what people would think when they saw this coming down the road. Located in Canada, this custom Mercury is an interesting build that has questionable appeal.
It is said to be eye catching, but more like an eye sore. Sure it may have powered windows, steering, seats, and a front disc, rear drum brake setup, but it doesn’t shy away from the fact that this custom could cause a serious debate about what makes a good or bad custom.
Honestly, who would take the time to completely take away the prestige of a 1939 Mercury Coupe and put in a whole new dash from a lesser known car? It’s a shame in all honesty that someone went through with creating this abomination.
There really isn’t anything to praise or get excited over. It’s simply a custom gone wrong in every way possible.
With an asking price of $47,999.99, would you take the bait and drive this home? What are your thoughts of this custom? We’re not sure what to call this build as it is odd in so many ways.
