Rarer Than A Hemi Cuda ‘Vert: 1-Of-3 Nash Rambler Panel Up For Sale

Rambler01With all the high-dollar auctions we’ve seen lately with Hemi ‘Cudas selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars – and the convertibles selling for millions – it’s uniquely refreshing to come across another rare vehicle that the general public is likely not even aware of its existence. What makes that discovery even better is when that rare vehicle has a blown big block stuffed between the front rails.

Rambler07Call us crazy, but we love this 1-of-3 Nash Rambler panel truck found on Craigslist, and as if the vibrant yellow wasn’t enough to catch your eye, the B&M Racing 420 blower perched on top of the BBC and the polished bug catcher should get your attention. We spoke to the owner, Eric Lich, and he told us he took this rare vehicle in on a trade for a Model A that he had.

“The first time I drove it, the thing about ripped my neck off,” he told us. Even his wife has told him that it’s just too fast, and that’s why he has it up for sale. But this isn’t because Eric is not an experience driver. No, he’s built plenty of cars in his time, including gassers, so he’s no stranger to badass cars with beastly power. “This is crazy,” he told us. “When you take off, there’s no pulling to either side. It goes in a straight line and it lifts the front end easily. If it doesn’t sell, I’m putting wheelie bars on it because it needs them.”

Eric has had it to a couple of shops, and the work that was done on this car is very professional – not something a mere hobbyist has put together in his side yard. The business office of this Nash is spartan; a set of Auto Meter gauges to keep you informed, a panel of switches, the go-stick and the whoa-pedal, and the MSD ignition box are about all you’ll find in the carpeted interior. We made Eric promise us a ride in this Rambler if it doesn’t sell, because it’s just too cool of an opportunity to pass up.

Rambler03Between the frame rails you’ll find a BBC with the reworked B&M blower, backed by a B&M TH400 and a ratchet shifter and shift kit. Of course, it’s been tubbed to fit the massive 33×18.50×15 Hoosier tires mounted on Weld Racing draglites. The Dana 60 rearend has a four-link setup to help transfer the ponies to the pavement, and to fuel the beast is a race fuel cell tucked into the fully caged body of the car.

This Nash is the epitome of hot rodding in the musclecar era: a big engine in a small vehicle, and neck snapping torque that lets you know you’re alive. Eric takes it to about three shows a month, and loves driving it, but you can clearly tell from the pictures that this Rambler is all business and requires your full attention when behind the wheel.

Rambler02We made a deal with Eric: if he doesn’t sell it, we’ll do a full feature on it and go for a ride in it, so we’ll find out soon enough. It’s been listed for a couple weeks, and he’s going to give it two more and then decide to possibly just keep it. That will give him plenty of time to buy some flowers for the missus just in case she needs some floral persuasion to let her hubby hang on to this one.
