This big windowed 1955 Chevrolet pickup belongs to Dennis Krumwiede of Puyallup, Washington. It’s been treated to a complete frame off restoration and really shows off what a well restored truck like this can be. And sure, it looks good on the outside, but wait until you get a peak under the hood. That’s really what pulled us in.
The truck was in pretty good shape when Dennis bought it, but it wasn’t what he wanted. “The engine compartment was really plain,” Dennis told us. “There was no chrome in it or anything.” You can really see the difference now that Dennis has had his hands on the truck. The entire engine compartment shines like a well cut gemstone. It also has a unique air cleaner design that stands as a unique design in itself.
The paint on the truck right now is the same finish that was on it when he bought it, and there is actually an interesting connection between it and Dennis from 1992. More than two decades ago, Dennis bought a brand new Peterbilt truck and they asked him what color he wanted it painted. He picked the green from a Camaro of that same year, with the thought in the back of his mind: “If I get a ’55 Chevy truck, I’m going to paint it this color.” Fast forward to 2005 when he was walking around at a Goodguys show and he sees his dream truck, in his dream color, and it’s for sale.
It was fate that he would end up with this truck decades after it was painted and decades after he knew the color he’d paint his truck when he got it. He’s changed quite a bit though and really spruced up the look of the engine under the hood. It’s running a relatively simple setup: a 350 cubic-inch engine powered by dual Edelbrock carburetors with a turbo 350 transmission and low road gearing so he’s only up to 2800 RPM on the highway.
The real cool factor with this truck is in the styling and the comfort. It’s got air conditioning, an Alpine stereo system, leather interior, power mirrors, a tilt column, a Dakota Digital dash, and power steering, plenty of creature comforts. It also has independent front suspension, remote power doors, power disc brakes, electronic ignition, a rear mounted fuel tank, and a narrowed rear axle housing. It’s been customized and redesigned to say the least, and that’s what makes this old truck a great driver.
