The first thing about this car that caught our eye when we saw it a few months ago was the matching cooler. With the ’56 Chevrolet emblem on top and the handles on the side, it was probably the coolest show accessory that we’ve ever seen — stress on “was.” Long story short, the cooler was totaled at another car show when it was run over, but don’t worry, insurance is co-operating and a new one is in the works!
Now, back to the car, Steve Simmons of Sequim, Washington, is the proud owner of this unique 1956 Chevy Nomad build. It has the iconic look of the Nomad with the colorful paint that makes these resto-mod style cars stand out wherever they go. It even has a nicely dressed engine compartment with an old school polished copper radiator top.
This car is the fruition of Steve’s lifelong dream to have a ’56 Nomad. “This is the only car that I’ve ever wanted,” Steve told us. Sure, there are a lot of great cars out there and a lot of good deals to be had, but there is something special about owning the car that you’ve dreamed about. A great deal is nice, but that is really something.

There really is something to be said about the rear end of a Nomad. We sure wouldn’t mind following one of them for a couple miles down the highway.
Steve takes his car to about 30 shows every summer and just returned from the Nomad show in Billings, Montana. Although the car was trailered there, he has driven it down south as far as California and out east as far as Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.
This Nomad is powered by a 400 cubic-inch small-block that makes about 325 horsepower. The car really has an overall mild build with the 700-R4 transmission, 3.73:1 rearend gearing, a 600 series Edelbrock carburetor, and Edelbrock intake.
