Have you ever heard of a ’70 Dodge Charger Daytona convertible? If not, that’s because they were never manufactured. But that hasn’t stopped some enthusiasts from making their own drop-top Daytonas. As Autoholics found, while a unique idea, the Daytona convertible gets mixed reviews. Not surprising when it requires chopping apart an iconic car.
Autoholics found the car for sale on Hemmings. It is a ‘70 Charger that appears to have been converted into a Daytona because the owner refers to it as a “Daytona tribute car.” Thankfully, this means that a genuine Daytona was not sacrificed for the project.
The car comes equipped with a rebuilt 383cui engine and 727 automatic transmission with less than 2,000 miles on them. It also has a pusher fan and new 3 core radiator. The custom power top has a glass rear window and folds down over the trunk lid where a custom boot can be snapped into place. The Charger is finished off in Plum Crazy exterior paint with a custom white and black interior.
Because this car is so unique, the owner dubs it one-of-a-kind and the “most photographed car at the world famous Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise in Michigan.” We have no doubt that it gets plenty of attention- good or bad. While the car looks good with the top up, we aren’t so sure about cruising with the top down and the massive wing looming over your head.
If this piece of automotive artwork is interesting to you, it is for sale for $59,000- a cheap price compared to a real Daytona. For more information on the car and owner contact information, visit Hemmings.com.
