Take a look at this V8 powered Classic Roadsters Sebring kit car. It is designed after the 1962 Austin Healey. When transplanted with a V8 back in the day, some called these potent roadsters “the poor man’s Cobra.” This particular car was assembled in Michigan during the late ‘90s. The owner and builder at the time worked at a GM engine plant, giving him firsthand access to some serious small-block power.
He dropped a ZZ3 350 cubic-inch small-block Chevrolet engine into his kit. This particular engine has a 9.5:1 compression ratio and produces one horsepower per cubic inch — coming in at 350 horsepower. Along with the ZZ3 engine it also features a turbo-350 transmission, MSD electronic ignition, and a B&M shifter.
The current owner of this car is Jerry Johnson from Port Townsend, Washington. An auto enthusiast to his core, he also owns a Studebaker that we looked at a few months back. He has had the car for ten years now. “I bought it off the internet from a place down in Florida,” Johnson detailed. “Then I had it shipped up here to Port Townsend.
The car only has 16,800 miles on it, and Jerry tells us that of his four hotrods, this is his most reliable. “I just fell in love with it over the internet,” Jerry told us. Unlike most online romances however, this one has a happy ending. “I saw that it had a V8 motor and that it was an all-weather kind of car,” Jerry continued. With that, there was no going back.
