There’s a very loud buzz surrounding the 2017 NMCA Xtreme Pro Mod season, and it’s about as loud as one of the screw-blown combinations you’ll see on the track this year. The class has been growing steadily and is primed for breakout season in 2017, and with a deep talent pool of racers, an excellent rules package, the lanes are sure to be filled with the world’s fastest doorslammers all season long.
Last year’s title was won by Bankston Boyz driver Tim Savell, but in 2017 he’ll be gaining another teammate, in addition to current stablemate, Billy Banaka. According to ProMedia’s Steve Baur, the new triple-threat team will have some star power. “Kye Kelley will be driving one of the Bankston Boys cars this year, making it a three-car team. They’ve got a chassis being finished now for Kye to run this year.”
The Bankston Boyz team will have their hands full this season with several talented drivers who will be making the Xtreme Pro Mod class their home. Steve Summers, who won the NMCA Pro Mod title in 2014, will be back this year with his slippery new 1970 Jerry Bickel-built Camaro. Former IHRA Pro Mod champ Dina Parise and her Cadillac known as “Stella” will also be back on the NMCA tour looking to make her presence known for the title chase, as well. Also looking to make a dent in the field is the always fast Josh Kluger who has committed to running the entire Xtreme Pro Mod season in his Mustang.
If those drivers weren’t enough, Top Sportsman standout Benjamin Board is making the jump to Xtreme Pro Mod with a new hemi-based ProCharger combination. Giving things an international flavor will be Sweedish racer Adam Flamholc who will be running the entire NMCA schedule in 2017 behind the wheel of his blown Corvette. The always tough Jason Hamstra is working on getting ready for the NMCA Florida race and plans on making a title run too.
This surge in participation in the Xtreme Pro Mod is no accident — it’s the product of the NMCA’s thoughtful changes to their rules package. “We’ve been building on our change to the 1/8-mile format and it’s starting to pay off. The rules are more cohesive with other sanctioning bodies and easier for people to come race with us since they don’t have to change transmissions and gear ratios,” Baur says.
You’ll be able to see all the great Xtreme Pro Mod racing action March 9-12 at Bradenton Motorsports Park when the NMCA’s Muscle Car Mayhem event kicks off. SpeedVideo.com will be broadcasting the entire race live right here thanks to presenting sponsor ProCharger, along with E3 Spark Plugs, FAST, Comp Cams, PRW Industries, Edelbrock, Max-Fire Ignition, The Brake Man, Moser, and Summit Motorsports Park.
