When it comes to car shows, after the first 75 cars or so … only the very best or the very worst will catch your attention. This custom coupe is one of those rare cars that really stands out in a crowd.
According to the car’s placard, this beauty was built by Street Toys in Muskitine, Iowa by custom car builder Mike Thieker. Featured in several magazines, and winner of several Goodguys “pick” awards, this coupe was selected as the 2009 Chicago World of Wheels Full Custom Street Rod Coupe. The car has racked up more Best in Show and Best Paint awards than we can list here.
The reason for the best paint awards is obvious. In addition to the one of a kind paint mix from House of Kolor, the black and tangerine mix is highlighted by lavender outlined flames and was sprayed by JC Hetzler. Known as “Hetz,” JC is one of the most well-known pinstripers and custom painters for the past 40 years. Hetz has many show winners to his credit.
We were assured that the car looks like a trailer queen but actually gets driven, and can go anywhere because it is a dependable car to own. When we ran across it at the Del Mar, California, Goodguys event, the car was for sale with an asking price of $59,000 or best offer.
If you are looking for a custom street rod that can turn heads, this is one that screams one-of-a-kind. Break open the piggy bank and take a quick trip to San Diego to make it yours.
