If you’ve seen the Detroit Speed (DSE) cars in action, you’ll know they mean business. Their cars on the autocross courses are well-orchestrated, finely-tuned machines. Much like the Mafia dominated Chicago, then Vegas, Detroit Speed is taking over and dwarfing the competition; especially at this year’s Goodguys even in Indianapolis.
Fresh off the trailer, the team made their way to the autocross event. Like a NASCAR team their procedures are almost Military-like. Their Test Cars are like heat-seeking missiles and finely tuned to win. After a full weekend of competition, The DSE ’70 Camaro Test Car finished 1st with their awesome ’63 Nova II Test Car finishing 2nd. Finally, to top it off, their ’69 Camaro Test Car sealed the deal with a 3rd place finish in the Vendor category.
The event was full of thousands of cars and even more enthusiasts. What’s more, the event was held inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! Indianapolis Motor Speedway even allowed the cars onto the famous track on Friday and Saturday evening.
The autocross event was filled with fifty different cars running in the Vendor, Street Rod, Street Machine, and even Truck classes. Other DSE equipped cars enter the event, too. Cars like Brian Finch’s ’71 Camaro, Robert McGaffin’s Oldsmobile, Tom Farrington’s ’66 Chevelle, and even Michael Manning’s ’69 Camaro.
True to their nature, the DSE test cars were busy all weekend offering out rides to lucky spectators. If you’ve never ridden “shotgun” with Kyle or Stacy Tucker, it’s an awesome experience. It’s a thrill-ride not experienced by many. During the Vendor Class, Kyle Tucker not only took home the first-place win in their ’70 Camaro Test Car, but managed to squeak out the top time for the entire weekend—Congratulations to Kyle!
