Ford has announced that the 2011 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 pickup will come standard with the 6.2-liter V8 engine. Raising the bar once again, the new engine delivers 411 flywheel horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque with a trailer towing capacity of 9,300 pounds.
First delivered in the SVT Raptor off-road F-150 model, the 6.2-liter engine provides sophisticated design cues, including an SOHC valvetrain with roller-rocker shafts, dual-equal variable cam timing, dual spark plugs on each cylinder and dual knock sensors.
With one knock sensor on each bank of cylinders, the ECU can optimize the spark timing for each individual cylinder, in real time and throughout the full RPM range. Given the engine’s large bore, the dual spark plugs deliver more complete combustion for improved torque as well as better fuel economy. An improved idle is gained as well.
The long standing relationship between Ford and Harley Davidson has produced nine F-150 special editions, as well as six Super Duty F-250 and F-350 models, and in 2009, the first Harley-Davidson F-450 edition truck.
For 2011, the Harley-Davidson F-150 gets a bold, new front end with six-bar-shaped satin chrome grille bars and boasts Harley-Davidson satin chrome badging. The exterior color choices – Tuxedo Black or Ingot Silver – coordinate well with the standard 22″ Euroflange forged wheels and low-profile performance tires. New Harley-Davidson graphics are done in an engine-turned finish, most recently seen on the dash panel of the 2008 Bullitt Mustang.
Additional standard features include a power moon roof, rear view camera, second-row heated seats, ambient lighting, a remote Start System and a voice-activated navigation system. Within the instrument cluster, located between the speedometer and tach, is a new “productivity screen” which provides information on fuel economy and towing performance, as well as trip computer functions.
