Jack Roush Returns to Michigan

Jack Roush was released from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MI, yesterday. Roush was being treated for facial injuries sustained during an extremely hard aircraft landing at Wittman Regional Airport, in Oshkosh, WI.

“I would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and concern I have received the past two weeks,” Roush said. “Our teams and drivers have not missed a beat in my absence, and I am proud of the effort they have put forth. I look forward to rejoining them at the track soon.”

Roush was piloting his Hawker Beechcraft Premier jet when the incident occurred. Roush is an experienced pilot and had one passenger onboard with him. Roush was taken to Theda Clark Medical Center immediately following the incident and later transferred to the Mayo Clinic.

Born in Covington, Kentucky, Mr. Roush was raised in Manchester, Ohio. He attended Berea College and received a mathematics degree with a minor in physics in 1964. He obtained a master’s degree in scientific mathematics from Eastern Michigan University in 1970.

Roush began his automotive career in 1964, when he was recruited by Ford Motor Company to work on the processing of car assembling and tooling. While working for Ford, Roush was drawn to the company’s extensive motorsports activities and surrounded himself with others who shared his enthusiasm for going fast.

Roush worked at Chrysler as an engineer for one year before leaving in 1970 to start his own engineering business. In between his racing ventures, he taught mathematics, physics, and a variety of automotive subjects at Monroe Community College in Monroe, MI. Today, Jack Roush is co-owner of Roush Fenway Racing and chairman of ROUSH Enterprises, which is extensively involved in the Alternative Fuels, Aerospace, Automotive, Defense, Life Sciences and Renewable Energy industries.

Roush is a popular figure with racing fans, generous with his time and that of his drivers. According to Harry and Susan Mager of Toms River, NJ, “He is the most gracious celebrity we’ve ever met.”
