Street Feature: This 1967 El Camino Is A Dream Realized

This El Camino is the realization of a dream for Tom Mattingly of Edmonds, Washington. “It took six years,” Tom told us. “But I did it.” What you’re looking at is a 1967 El Camino loaded with options, features, and a 427 cubic-inch LS7 engine to boot.

The build quality on this is outstanding. This is the kind of car you have to see in person to really appreciate everything that it is.

Every detail of this car has been retouched. It features a smoothed firewall, shortened front and rear bumpers with a cutout in the back for the exhaust, shaved drip rails, shaved door handles, and so much more that you’ll have to just look at the pictures to enjoy the all out custom build  of this car.

That LS needs to breath, and where better to pull air than the extra headlights?

Down the line from the LS7 engine is a 6-speed manual transmission and Currie 9-inch rearend with 3.91:1 gearing. The stopping power has been enhanced using HydraTech hydro-boosted braking technology with a CPP master cylinder and Baer discs all around. At the same time, the ride has also been improved with a Roadster Shop custom frame, Detroit Speed suspension, and Strange engineering axels. When we said all out on this build, we meant it.

The interior is also just as well touched as the rest of the car and features a concourse level upholstery job, an ididit tilt steering column, and a hand-made instrument cluster using all Auto-Meter equipment.

We really enjoy seeing people’s dreams become reality, and we love it when they share them with us. Show off your dream and shoot us an email with some details and pictures of your car. We would love to see it and share it with our readers. Who knows, it may even end up being our next Street Feature.
