When you think of pony cars, what comes to mind? Camaro? Firebird? Mustang? Most often than not is one of these three, and as of late, the Dodge Challenger and Plymouth ‘Cuda also pops into people’s heads thanks to the re-release of Mopar’s offering. But we left one out. A car that was built by a company who not only ceased to exist, but for most of its life, was never part of the big three.
That company would be AMC, and the pony car in question would be none other than the Javelin. It was built from 1968-1974, and was offered in two body styles and several trim levels in that time. While combing through eBay for unique AMC models, we found this ’72 Javelin SST with a 2-BBL 304, and only 16,000 original miles on the ticker.
While there were hotter and faster versions available, we couldn’t help but share this mid-range example in near pristine, all-original condition model. Painted in its factory dark red hue with black vinyl interior, this thing is almost as it had left the factory near forty years ago!
However, if you’re looking for brute force, then look elsewhere, as the 304 only packed 150 net horsepower when equipped with the 2-bbl carburetor. But swap on a few speed parts, and you’ll have a hot little street machine on your hands.
It comes complete with all documentation and every gadget on the car works as it should. Being offered at No Reserve (!) any AMC purist should jump all over this thing. It might not be a road burner, but we think it would make one heck-of-a nice cruiser!
