Street Feature: A 1957 Pontiac Star Chief With Modern Pontiac Power

It’s not all that often we are treated by the sight of a 1957 Pontiac Star Chief out at a show. They are somewhat similar to their Chevrolet counterpart, but feature more chrome and a different approach to late-‘50s luxury than it’s more popular cousin, the 1957 Bel Air.

This '57 Pontiac is just full of style inside and out. We love the round styling on the front grille, the classic Pontiac features of the interior, and of course that LT1 hiding under its hood.

This Pontiac beauty belongs to Floyd Albright of Renton, Washington, and he has had the car for almost twenty years. “It was a good driver when I got it, actually a nice original car,” he explained. “I started making changes about a year after I got it.” Over the last twenty years, it’s definitely seen a lot of change. The first thing to go was that outdated front suspension and it now sports a Fat-Man front end.

The Foose wheels fit well with the rest of the build. They are clean, chrome, and stylish.

Originally equipped with a 347 cubic-inch engine, it now features a 1997 LT1 engine out of a Pontiac Firebird. “The engine, transmission, radiator, and fans are all off the donor car,” he explained. “The rearend is out of a 2000 Blazer.” Along with the LT1 came a 4L60E automatic transmission and positraction rearend.

We were happy to find Floyd and his Pontiac out at the Goodguys show in Puyallup, Washingtona  few weeks back and we’d love to see what you folks are driving out there. If you love it, odds are good that we will too, so shoot us an email with a couple pictures and a little information on your ride, you might just see it here as one of our Street Features.
