There’s no shortage of A-bodies getting the Pro-Touring treatment these days. Since Chevrolets are cheap and plentiful, aftermarket companies are quickly cranking out products to really pump new life into these machines. And since fellow GM siblings – GTO, 4-4-2 and GSX – all share the same underpinnings, these off-brand machines reap the benefit of there being just too many damned Chevrolets on the road.
One such project is this wicked GTO titled “Voodoo Child.” Titled after the classic Jimi Hendrix tune of the same name, this satin black-and-red Goat earned its look thanks to a set of Boyd Coddington “Possessed” wheels. The GTO from which this wicked machine will be built from, started life as pretty wild street fighter.
Picked up with 35,000 original miles on the clock, the Goat currently has a ’76 Pontiac 400 with a 6-71 blower poking up out of the hood. That powerplant will be replaced with reworked as a 462ci ’69 block, bored .040, and touting a 4.25 stroke crank, worked-over 6x heads, the same 6-71 BDS blower but with EFI.
Backing the blown big block is a stock TH400 transmission which spins a 12-bolt BOP rear. Those pieces, of course, will be replaced with a TCI 4L80 transmission with paddle shifters, Kore3 brakes (12.75-inch rotors up front and 12-inchers in the rear) with a Currie 9-inch rearend. Voodoo Child will also be riding on a custom frame with Curretrac rear billet upper and lower arms, a Fays2 Watts Link, 3-way adjustable shocks (front and rear), SPC lowering springs, AFX tall spindles, SPC ultralight control arms, SPC tubular lower arms, and Hellwig front and rear sway bars.
This inky GTO will also benefit from NAPA premium steering components, Hydratech Hydraboost balanced system, a Tom Lee quick ratio steering box and power steering pump. Of course, the final look of the Goat will be different as well, with custom reupholstered interior with 2005 GTO seats, and metallic purple over primer black paint. The cherry on top will be the aforementioned Boyd “Possesed” wheels (19×11 rear, 18×10 front) riding on Kumho Ecsta xs 285/35/19 (rear) and 265/35/18 (up front).
