The 1957 Chevy Bel Air is one of the most recognizable cars of all time, easily topping the list of American made cars. In the past couple of decades, enthusiasts and collectors have sought out great examples of the ’57 Bel Air, with major attention on the convertibles. Called the “Baby Cadillac” by many, due in large part to the numerous styling cues inherited from the Cadillac line, it was one of the most eye-catching cars out of Detroit, the market continues to recognize their popularity with pretty high value.

The 1957 Bel Air is often considered the “Baby Caddy” because of the similar styling cues used between the two makes.
While we don’t typically publish any articles with cars for sale, once in a while a special interest car will catch our eye, and we happened to find a real rare Baby Caddy on eBay. We don’t post the link to auctions because they appear as a dead link once the auction is over, but we have screen captured the listing for anyone that wants to make a bid on this beauty.
According to the seller: “This car was built as a 4-bbl Power Pack car and retains its original block.” This engine option was first available in 1957 and featured the two four barrel carbs with a “Duntov” cam and solid lifter to produce 270 hp – which was an amazing output for the time.
The seller also confirmed that the owner was a Chevy collector that specializes in tri-five Chevys, with many in his collection that once included an original Dual Quad hardtop. “He was T-boned in an accident and the hardtop was totaled,” explained the selling agent. “He bought it back from the insurance company and had the original engine in this car rebuilt at restoration with the factory components of the Dual Quad engine. All the original parts to the Power Pack engine were retained and come with the car, including the camshaft, 4BBL Carb, intake, distributor, lifters, air cleaner, and Cylinder heads.”
The car also has the rebuilt original factory automatic transmission, a high quality, dual stage repaint in the factory Onyx Black. The owner believes the red and silver interior, dash, and door panels are also original. The car features a new white convertible top and boot, with all bright work restored or perfect original chrome & stainless.
Like everyone else, we are drawn to the factory Continental spare tire kit highlighted by the rear deck lid chrome strip. This makes the Bel Air look even more like a Baby Caddy. According to the selling agent, the car has slightly over 66K miles since the restoration was completed.
Convertibles from this era are valuable, and continuing to increase in value. A long look at this beauty and we can understand why. Especially having undergone a full frame-up restoration, with OE components. The car appears to be in excellent condition and we can easily see that the paint and chrome are exceptional.
