The latest custom creation from Petty’s Garage, the “Bootlegger Edition” Mustang, made its debut at Speed Digital’s third annual Speed Soiree, held at The Stables Auto Group during Arizona Car Week. The car unveiled was a one-of-one prototype of the package seen on a 2017 Mustang GT.
“The Bootlegger concept was designed to be the ultimate sleeper vehicle,” said Matt Crump of Petty’s Garage. The name pays homage to the often downplayed Petty family history. According to Crump, Petty’s father ran moonshine from the family stills, Richard accompanied him on occasion.
“We wanted to have as much horsepower as we could get out of it and still be street legal,” said Crump adding that the prototype achieves over 800 horsepower with the help of an Edelbrock 2650 supercharger.
Production is limited to 43 cars and will only be available on the 2018 Mustang platform.
Other features include Wilwood brakes, Niche wheels, and a Barton short-throw shifter. Additionally, each car comes with a bottle of Richard Petty’s Bourbon Whiskey 43.
Though a date has not been announced yet, the “Bootlegger Edition” Mustang will be available for purchase from select dealerships across the United States.
Immediately following the reveal, the car was auctioned with help from Leake Auctions. The sale, which brought a $61,000 hammer price, benefited the Petty Family Foundation. The charity works to promote a long-term positive impact on children and veterans.
