SEMA 2011: Global West Suspenions Springs Into ’58-64 Impalas

Global West Suspensions has been building, racing, and engineering street-trim muscle cars, and even full-tilt race cars since the ’80’s. With that kind of pull in the industry, it makes sense that they’re keeping strong and producing some of the nicest engineered bolt-on suspension components. They’ll fill any Chevy, Ford or Mopar outfit with everything it’ll need to stay competitive.

Global's front coilover kit for A-body Chevelle's means serious business. Guess what? It's all bolt-on!

We had a great opportunity to chop it up with owner, Doug Norrdin, who explained to us his driving background and personally wheels himself during the testing of Global West Suspension products.

Norrdin explained, “If I can go out on the track for a weekend and make changes to the car, which in turn then make the car faster, I’ll know right then and there that the changes I’ve made are benefiting me. It all goes back to the shop; eventually landing into our products.”

Norrdin takes his testing seriously and admitted, “I frequently run in the ‘X’ category for the Porsche autocross days. I’m not there to race the Porsche’s, I’m there to test my own products to make them stronger and more efficient..I even use my own ’02 Z06 Corvette.”

Ford fans should know, Global has made a huge push with their Blackline drag race bushings for the '05-'12 Mustangs. This line of suspension products. This line of bushings is a direct replacement for the front lower control arm bushings. The bushing allows the suspension to react without resistance and the Blackline bushings are able to handle extreme loads with absolutely no deflection and maximizes the front ends ability to transfer load.

This years 2011 SEMA show proved it, too, with Global’s newest creation: ’58-64 Impala coilover kits. Among other items, hitting the Impala market is a huge step. These coilover kits from Global West require no welding for installation, which means they can be installed in a matter of no time. Global West builds in adjustability through ride height, shock dampening and includes a multitude of spring combinations.

Not into bouncing down the highway or around turns? These kits not only improve handling but the sloppy, tug boat-like ride, too. This particular kit on display in their fully-outfitted SEMA Show booth included double adjustable shocks and are generally your best option when fine tuning your ride. Whether you’re looking for comfort or putting power down at the stop light, the adjustability is there for you.

Of course, Global hasn't left out Mopar or Ford fans either. Global West Makes a Drag Pack package for the new Challenger; featuring the Blackline of control arm bushings. Make sure to visit their globalwest.net for more information.

This particular kit is supplied with double adjustable shocks. Double adjustable shocks are the best for fine tuning your ride. You can use the adjustments whether you are looking for comfort or for putting power down at the stop light.

The decision is yours. The advantage using this type of shock is the ability to adjust bump and rebound separately. Bump is when the tire goes up into the fender and rebound is when the tire moves out of the fender. A normal shock has preset dampening and invariably is not setup for your driving style or performance options you have built into your car.

In addition to shocks, the kit also comes with springs, various steel and aluminum rear end brackets, lower control arms, and an upper cross member. The upper cross member strengthens the frame for mounting the coilover. Ride height is adjusted with a spanner wrench (furnished in the kit) and threaded adjusting collars on the shock body. By adjusting the collar up or down on the shock adjusts ride height. What’s more, exhaust clearance is not hampered with installation.

Global West also offers a full line of complete front suspension products, which include tubular upper and lower control arms.
