A rare pre-production 1967 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible from John Staluppi’s Cars of Dreams collection is for sale on eBay. When developing new models, auto companies assemble “pilot cars” to test build quality and installation of optional equipment. This car was hand-built in the factory Dodge B-Body plant in St. Louis, Missouri in April of 1966.
Usually pre-production cars were crushed and though no one knows why this car survived, it luckily escaped destruction. It is titled as a 1967 and currently has 57,380 miles on the clock.
Seller states the car is equipped with every available options that was offered for 1967 including air conditioning, bucket seats and styled steel wheels. Power comes from the tried and true 383 V-8 and a Torqueflite 3-speed transmission. To top this all off, the car wears a unusual shade of copper paint with a black top.
A few years ago, this car was completely disassembled, restored and is presented in “as new” condition. The chrome, stainless, trim, paint, body, interior, trunk, engine compartment and undercarriage have been refreshed to a very high standard. Current bid is approximately $25K and has not met reserve.
