The guys over at Speed Hunters turned us onto this wild ’64 Lemans altered wheelbase nostalgic drag car. It’s powered by a big block Pontiac race engine with Hilborn fuel injection. The car’s owner, Glenn Gibbons races  the car in the A/FX nostalgic class. Usually, the car will run in the low 10-second zone at 131 miles an hour.

The interior shows that this poncho is all business, just a roll cage, aluminum interior, shifter, and gauges is all that you will find inside. We don’t have any other information on the car other than judging by the pictures, it has an automatic transmission with a trans brake, probably a Power glide, or turbo 400.

The body work and paint are awesome, whoever perform the conversion from stock to altered wheelbase, did an excellent job. This thing looks like something you would see at the Lions Dragway back in the day.

Although it looks the part of an old nostalgic racer, if you look carefully, you can see the modern disc brake assemblies through the spokes of the wheels. The paint scheme almost mimics that of an early World War II fighter plane with its war paint and name boldly displayed on its fuselage, only in this case, it portrays a tiger pouncing on another unsuspecting victim.

It’s very cool to see old nostalgic drag cars like this. They bring back memories of the old RAM Chargers back in the 60s. These altered wheelbase drag cars were the pioneering ventures that brought about the funny cars. For the most part, it’s an honor and a privilege to see that these cars are still running today, otherwise they would be lost to the pages of the history books.
