According to CBS Los Angeles over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, on Sunday November 27th, two Dodge Vipers were allegedly street racing in the early afternoon on the Pacific Coast Highway at Zuma Beach in Malibu, California when one Viper clipped the front end of a Nissan SUV head on that was carrying a mother and her two young children. Upon impact, the SUV rolled and the Viper spun several times before coming to a stop.
Witnesses rushed to the site of the crash as the other Viper fled the scene. The man in the crashed Viper was pulled out of his vehicle as flames began to engulf it and the two children in the SUV were pulled to safety unharmed after a good Samaritan broke out the back window with a rock.
The woman driving the SUV sustained two broken legs and had to be extracted by firefighters when they arrived.
Although the woman had to be extracted and taken by helicopter to a local hospital with her children, she is currently doing well after surgery on her legs and is awaiting surgery on her foot scheduled for later this week, according to Jackie O’Brien, the children’s grandmother.
Lesson to be learned here: Don’t street race! It may seem like a fun idea, but you are putting your and innocent people’s lives at risk by engaging in the sport. Leave it to the drag strips where it’s more fun to drive anyway.
