Practically everything in Afco’s comprehensive catalog is engineered to help you go faster, so whenever they release a new product it’s worth taking notice. And now the company has a new set of struts for Fox Body and SN95 (1979-2004) Mustangs purpose built for drag racing.
Fox body and SN95 Mustangs are among the most popular chassis in grassroots-level drag racing, and these struts should help racers drop lap times and gain consistency. Afco’s Eric Saffell told us that these double-adjustable shocks will come with one of the widest valving ranges available in the industry. The adjustments for rebound and compression will be fully independent, and the struts will be completely rebuildable. Plus, the strut bodies are constructed from steel, so they should be plenty rugged and capable of withstanding plenty of racing abuse.
But possibly most imporant is that these new struts will feature Afco’s BNC valving which has been shown in the company’s other shocks to offer better damping of front-end bounce after hard starts. One of the big issues with making consistent, fast times is unloading the rear wheels if the front end bounces when it comes down after a wheelie. Afco’s BNC valving stands for Bounce Control, and it is designed to take the bounce out of that landing and help the rear tires maintain good traction all the way down the track.
We’re told that Afco expects to have this new strut available by early Spring of this year. For more information, you can hit up Afco’s website here.
