The world got its first look at D&Z Customs’ newest car, “Project Envious” at the SEMA show. The car showed up again at the Performance Racing Industry trade show, and we finally got a chance to get some detail photos to share with you.
D&Z Customs in Wisconsin has made its name building Pro Touring Camaros, and Project Envious might just be the shop’s best yet. The car is a 1970 Camaro painted a bright hue of green thanks to PPG paint (the name alludes to the old “green with envy” trope). Custom touches run throughout the car, and practically everything is there to help improve performance. A naturally-aspirated LS engine powers the car, but it looks to be far from stock. There’s a FAST intake on top, and the lack of coil packs on the valve covers tells us something has been done to the ignition. There’s also an oil tank mounted to the firewall on the passenger side, so we know we’re looking at a dry sump oiling system as well.
Other upgrades include a very unique cantilevered front suspension with trick adjustable, remote-resevoir shocks from Ridetech. A Tremec manual six-speed is tasked with translating engine rpms to speed on the pavement, and Wilwood brakes bring the entire package back to a stop.
We’ve seen a ton of second-generation Camaros lately, but even so, this one is a stunner. We love the vented hood to help move hot air exiting the radiator into the atmosphere and out of the engine bay. The rear “duck tail” spoiler has been lengthtened but still ins’t out of proportion, and a front splitter shows this car is meant for serious track duty. Finally, we love the Forgeline DE3C Concave wheels which have been outfitted with Forgeline’s Flush-Loc centerlock conversion to eliminate the lug nuts.
