You are probably aware that Ford’s Mustang enjoys it’s 50th birthday in 2014–April 17, 2014, in fact.
You don’t make it to 50 continuous years of production if the car doesn’t strike a chord with people, and it is safe to say that the Mustang is one of the most beloved American cars ever. Heck, it birthed the entire pony car category of sporty cars. And we definitely hope to see new Mustangs being produced for another 50 years. (Wonder what they will look like by then?)
Besides the reveal of the new 2014 Mustang, Ford and the Mustang Club of America will be celebrating the Mustang’s 50th year with a massive five-day party that spreads across most of the continental United States.
If you really want to get into the spirit, festivities actually begin in Norman, Oklahoma on Sunday, April 14, when two Pony Drives will depart the state. One will be heading west to Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the second east to Charlotte Motor Speedway. Both Pony Drives plan to arrive at their respective destinations by Wednesday April 16 to begin the festivities at their respective race tracks. If you are interested in taking part in either of the drives, you can get more information here.
Both Charlotte and Vegas will have mirroring events beginning on the 16th and running through Sunday the 20th. Here’s a breakdown of what we know so far:
Wednesday (16th) — Party kickoff at the track. Exhibits and vendors will be on site.
Thursday (17th) — Official opening ceremonies and the Mustang birthday party. Tracks will be hot with opportunities to make laps as well as Ford ride-and-drives.
Friday (18th) — Track events like road racing and drag racing. The Mustang Club of America will host a themed dinner with live entertainment.
Saturday (19th) — More track time like Friday.
Sunday (20th) — Easter sunrise service, followed by parade laps and photo opportunities. Closing ceremonies in the afternoon.
The Mustang Club of America will be fleshing out the schedule with more details as we get closer to the event. For more information, check out the special website set up to celebrate the Mustang’s 50th here.
