The National Muscle Car Association met in Indianapolis for their final weekend of their 2012 season last weekend. However, rather than a weekend of racing, weather forced the sanctioning body to combine qualifying and eliminations into a one day event. By one day event, we mean 24 hours!

There was no denying that it was going to rain Sunday so rather than postpone eliminations to Monday, the officials made the call to hold one qualifying session, then roll right into eliminations. For the most part, the racers and crews accepted the challenge and even had fun with it. And if you survived to be in a final round, or even win, the title was just that much more special.

In the Pro Street finals, held at just before sunrise, Clint Hairston and Randy Adler faced off with Hairston’s Camaro getting out first and never looking back with a 6-flat to Adler’s 6.09 pass. Jason Lee qualified number one and scored an easy win in 275 Drag Radial against Kurt Borton with a 7.55 to 8.45. The competition in Super Street 10.5W was fierce as expected with Steve Summers landing his first win of the season after beating Ed Parker in a close race with 6.59 to a 6.87.

John Warren has been getting his Nova dialed in throughout the season with the help of his multi-year NMC Champ brother Andy. At Indy, all the hard work paid off as the team scored the number one qualifying spot, the stole the win from Phil Smith on a holeshot victory in Xtreme Street. For Pro Stock, Don Baskin celebrated his fourth win of the season as he got his ’67 Nova past Andy Schmidt in the finals. Speaking of holeshot victories, Skip Baskin’s ‘slower’ 7.32 beat Joe Bucaro’s 7.28 thanks to a .043 advantage on the starting line in Nostalgia Pro Street.

In Open Comp, David Hearn took home his first win by beating a Tim Swisher while in Nostalgia Super Stock, Jeff Roell took the win over Joe Ewing in a classic Ford versus Mopar battle. In the NMC class, Jerry Stamps got the win over Jacob Weigl after Weigl ran just under his index.
