Johnny Sauter Joins The List Of Entries For The Howie Lettow Memorial 150

By Kari Shear-Carlson

June 5, 2012 – NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver and Necedah, WI native, Johnny Sauter has added his name to the list of those who will be joining the ASA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings on June 11th and 12th for the Swiss Colony Howie Lettow Memorial 150 presented by RaceTeamGear.com.

Over the past several weeks drivers have been sharing their memories and thoughts of Howie Lettow as a person, crew chief and friend. The theme has been consistent and Johnny Sauter’s memories are no exception. “I remember Howie being a really quiet but hard working guy. I mean, that was my perception. He just seemed to come in, do his job, and go home. And he was successful at that,” said Sauter.

“I don’t think you can argue the effect he had on so many drivers over so many years. I don’t even know how many championships he won, but he worked with a lot of guys,” he added.

Like many, Sauter who will be sponsored by Miller Welders and Curb Records, is really looking forward to getting back to racing at the Milwaukee Mile, which is no surprise with the amount of success he has had there in the past. In 2005, Johnny Sauter won the Nationwide race and never qualified any worse than third from 2003-2006 at the Mile. In 2000, he put his ASA Challenge Series late model on the pole.

Sauter is one of the greatest spokespersons for the Milwaukee Mile. “I have a higher regard for the Mile than any other track in the country. Going to Wisconsin and racing there is your Daytona so winning in a super late model would be pretty big,” expressed Sauter.

As far as the mix of drivers and the competition, Sauter believes it is going to be pretty much the same for everyone because no one has had the opportunity to race there in several years. In fact, he says that is the biggest reason for him to make the trip. “You just never know, this may be the last opportunity to race at the Mile and I don’t want to miss it.”

Johnny will be one of three Sauters entered in the event. Along with all of the ECHO and ECHO Bear Cat Touring stars, Johnny will be racing against his nephew Travis, a regular ASAMT competitor, as well as his brother Tim Sauter. All three Sauters will be racing for one thing; a victory in the Howie Lettow Memorial 150. “I don’t know if I can [win], but it sure would be pretty cool,” added Sauter.

A limited number of VIP passes will be available for companies and fans. The VIP Pavilion presented by Budweiser package includes a special dinner, exclusive question and answer session with the night’s stars and a special autograph session. There will also be a rare race memorabilia auction to benefit the MACC Fund.
