When it comes to vehicles that truly started it all, the Ford Model A is right up there, and now thanks to the Model A Ford Foundation, Inc., the iconic model will get the recognition it deserves at the Gilmore Car Museum campus in Hickory Corners, Michigan. That’s because, starting this weekend, the Model A will have its own museum on the famed campus, with over 12,000 square-feet dedicated to everything the model has to offer. And better yet, it’s just $5 to get in and see it this weekend, according to the Hemmings Daily.
The idea for the Model A museum started back in 2010 when the Model A Ford Foundation, Inc (MAFFI) outlined a plan to raise $1 million to construct a Model A museum on the campus of the Gilmore Car Museum. In April of 2011, a ground breaking ceremony for the project took place and construction of the facility began.
Now, over a year later, the MAFFI is proud to announce that the museum is opening its doors for the first time to the public this weekend, with a ribbon cutting ceremony to start things off at 11: 00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18th.
Representatives from the Ford Motor Company, Model A car clubs and special guests like Ford’s Corporate Historian Robert Kreipke will be at the event.
Access to the entire Gilmore Car Museum campus will be available on Saturday for just $5, less than half of the regular price, and those arriving to the event in a Model A will get exclusive parking and free museum entry.
Those attending the ribbon-cutting event can expect live music, keynote speakers and tours showcasing the nearly 30 vehicles, cut-away engines, factory photos, blueprints, vintage research materials and other memorabilia.
Guests can also look forward to specialty Model A vehicles on display, like Thomas Edison’s Model A (the first Model A ever produced) and a unique Model A school bus.
If you’re in the Hickory Corners area and love the Model A like we do, the opening of the Model A Museum is not to be missed. And what better excuse do you need to wipe down your own Model A and take a drive anyway?
