Private Hot Rod Collection Heads To Mecum Auction With No Reserves

mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_5Premiere hot rod collections usually take a lot of time and effort to put together. After all, you have to not only find the cars for the collection, you also have to have the place to store them, the means to get them there and the knowledge of what you’re purchasing. Next month, Mecum Auctions is making part of that process a whole lot easier as a private hot rod collection featuring five exquisite rides is set to cross the stage in Houston with no reserve. If that doesn’t get your collector wheels turning, we don’t know what will!

mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_1The collection being offered at the Mecum Houston auction is from a private estate of what appears to be a collector with amazing taste. Among the cars listed are a fiberglass 1932 Ford roadster, a few 30s 3-window coupes, and a 1941 Willys 3-window coupe. In total, five cars from this collection will hit center stage.

Although the 1932 roadster isn’t an original Ford, it features plenty of perks you’d expect from a street rod. Built atop a new Brookville chassis, the car features a fiberglass Atlanta Rod body, a 355ci Chevy engine, 700R4 transmission, chrome Super Bell 4-inch dropped I-beam front suspension system, disc brakes in the front and 15-inch Halibrand billet wheels. The rod also features a leather interior, electric trunk, chrome rear coils and shocks, and a Ford 9-inch rearend with 3.08 gears.mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_4

With just 1,500 miles on the street rod since its build, this little red roadster is sure to be a hit when it crosses the stage in Houston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11th.mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_9

Next in the collection is a 1933 Ford 3-window that packs quite the punch with a 426ci HEMI engine up front and 3.55 gears in a 9 1/4-inch rearend in the back.

mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_8Other interesting features of the classic include a fiberglass body accented with chrome fenders, a C6 overdrive transmission controlled by a Hurst ratchet shifter, 14-inch vented and slotted brakes, chrome coils and shocks on all four corners, and 18-inch front and 20-inch rear billet wheels.

Inside the street rod, you’ll find a tan leather interior with bucket seats (the drivers seat is said to be 6-way adjustable), tilt steering, custom wood dash with electric gauges, electric windows and trunk, and an Alpine CD player. This street rod will cross the auction block at 7:05pm on Friday, April 11th.mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_6

mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_11The third car to hit the auction block in Houston from this collection is a 1934 Ford 3-window, also of the fiberglass type, although this one is a bit more toned down power wise. Under the hood of the red ’34 is a 302ci Ford V8 tied to a C4 transmission.

mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_12In addition to the coilover suspension system, this particular street rod features an 8 1/4-inch rearend, 15-inch aluminum wheels, vented front disc brakes, and plenty of chrome.

Inside, the car features a leather interior, Sony CD player, tilt steering, and electric windows. The truck is electric as well.

This street rod will hit center stage in Houston on Saturday, April 12th at 5:25pm. Following right behind will be its cohort, a 1937 Ford 3-window.

Just like the rest of the collection, this ’37 3-window consists of a fiberglass body, but that doesn’t take away from its overall appeal. Underneath the black paint scheme with traditional flames painted by Ronz, you’ll find a Chevy 350ci small block tied to a Turbo 400 transmission, Ford 9 1/4-inch rearend, vented disc brakes on all four corners, an adjustable coilover suspension, and American Racing wheels, which are wrapped in the rear with Nitto 404 Extreme 305/60R17 tires.

Inside, the car is just as plush as the rest, with leather and cloth seats, digital gauges, electric window cruise control, and even air conditioning.mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_17

mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_19Last but certainly not least is this fiberglass-bodied 1941 Willys 3-window coupe, which is the snazziest of them all. Under the sleek black exterior, you’ll find a Chevrolet Performance ZZ572ci V8 engine with Doug Herbert aluminum heads, 10.5 compression pistons, aluminum roller rockers, Griffin aluminum radiator, steel crankshaft, RamJet fuel injection, and Sanderson headers that dump into a stainless exhaust.

mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_21Tying the engine to the Ford 9-inch with 3.23 rearend gears is a TH400 6-speed controlled by a Hurst shifter. Underneath, the car features an adjustable coilover suspension, 12-inch vented disc brakes on all four corners and Mickey Thompson 31×18-inch rear tires.

If that’s not enough to blow your mind, one look inside this beast will do it. Not only does the interior of this street rod feature leather seats, digital gauges, a Vintage Air climate control system and billet steering column and wheel, it also features a Kenwood navigation system with built in CD/DVD player, and a 10-inch subwoofer to boot.

This fine ride will cross the auction block at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 12th.

Now realistically, most people won’t be able to purchase the whole collection, but with each car selling at no reserve, there is a good chance for you to get your hands on some of these mighty fine rides starting next month. Be sure to register to bid in Houston for your chance to own one before the gavel falls!mecum_2104_hotrod_collection_23
