Whether you’re looking for a proper show-queen or an all-out driver, there are plenty of places to find your perfect hot rod. But rarely do you find both ends of the hot rod spectrum in one fantastic creation, like what RK Motors Charlotte is offering in this Mills & Co. built 1931 Ford Model A coupe. Find out what you need to know about this amazing ride below!
Unlike many a Model A today, this classic hot rod started out a genuine 1931 Ford Model A. But over time, something had to be done to keep it as modern and as sought after as its more modernly made cohorts so this bad boy was taken to Mills & Co. in Marietta, Georgia for the high-dollar celebrity treatment it deserved.
Once there, the coupe was chopped three inches and channeled by another three, among other things, with the utmost care taken to preserve every classic detail of the coupe’s classic shape. The chassis was double Z’d by four inches in the front and eight in the rear.
Once the car’s body was expertly molded into its current shape, it was sent off to Customs & Color in Powder Springs, GA, where a sleek House of Kolors Goldmine Pearl finish was laid and veteran pinstriper Bill Abrams laid down some exquisite pinstiping designs.
Though much of this car’s first impression comes from the amazing body and glossy finish, you’ll find more than plenty to keep your eyes drawn in between the front wheels, where a 350 ci V8 engine provides the classic coupe with 290 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. An aluminum Offenhauser intake, Mallory Unilite distributor, 5-row radiator and three Rochester 2GC carburetors help give this mighty GM engine its stout performance numbers, while a T5 5-speed transmission throws all its power to the coupe’s John’s Industries 9-inch rearend, complete with 3.55 gears.
Up front, the coupe makes use of a 4-inch dropped axle, modern Pete & Jake’s shocks, a Posies reversed-eye spring and a Vega-style steering box. Out back, the coupe is fitted with Pete & Jake’s ladder bars, shocks and a Posies reversed-eye spring.
All of this keeps the 16-inch painted wheels wrapped in Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewalls perfectly splayed on the ground while early Lincoln drum brakes are used in the front and Ford 10-inch drums are used in the back for stopping power.
Built to be SHOWN and DRIVEN, this amazing mashing of hot rod expertise is currently up for grabs at RK Motors Charlotte for $109,900, a fraction of what it would cost to build a hot rod of a similar caliber.
