Land yachts require a decent and possibly bordering on excessive amount of power to propel their sheer mass down the highway at a decent speed. When one thinks of large barges images of Lincolns and Cadillacs seem to be the first images to pop into mind. Recently the automotive diehards at Jalopnik scoured the web and found a Cummins powered ’60 Cadillac.
A Cummins diesel engine would seem to make sense, but seeing pictures of the monster really makes you think. Having owned a ’61 Lincoln Continental, I had thought about the possibility of swapping diesel in the Bertha (’61 Lincoln) but ended up selling the monster before anything was done. Based on the size and weight of the Cadillac it makes me think that the swap is within realm of reason.
By no means is this Cadillac a pristine model, in fact it is bordering on rat rod territory but to some that is a thing of beauty. During an eBay auction the ratty Caddy featured a buy it now price of $13,900, which according to the guys at Jalopnik is a little more expensive than other comparable but non-diesel listings. Regardless of the lack of show quality, this flat black diesel smoke belching beast is pretty freaking cool.
A video documents the Caddy’s drivability and it just looks like a couple or few tons of fun; imagine the horror of blasting a tailgater with loads of black diesel smoke in traffic. With the combination of the 5.9 Cummins engine hidden beneath the hood and the 5-speed manual transmission this looks like one fun and very badass Cadillac.
