Strolling around at the Western Street Rod Nationals Plus in Bakersfield, California, we saw several beautiful street rods. However, it was this 1937 Chevrolet convertible that caught our eye for its classic look and utter elegance.
The Chevrolet convertible, originally named the Chevrolet Master was manufactured between 1933 and 1942, replacing the Chevrolet Eagle. Although it was one of the more expensive vehicles to purchase during its time, its appeal has carried not only in the classic car collective but also the hot rod community.
Replacing the Chevrolet Standard Six in 1937, the Chevrolet Master was poised to be the luxury vehicle of choice with its 206 cubic-inch 3.4 liter six cylinder engine. Over time, we have seen the Chevrolet Master series get chopped, shaved, and narrowed to gain some sleek looking curvature. However, this particular Chevrolet convertible does not have a top to chop but the owner decided to stick to its roots, keeping it in factory form.
Kicking off the second Street Rod Nationals Plus event of the 2015 event schedule, the National Street Rod Association was set to put on a great show at Kern County Fairgrounds.
Owned by Jay Jolly of Carmichael, California, he gave us a little insight about his beloved Chevy. The Chevy convertible is built on the stock frame with an added cross member and a Heidt’s front suspension.
Under the hood, Jolly’s Convertible has a 396 cubic-inch Big-Block V8 engine. With plenty of horsepower, power hits the pavement with a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission.
As for the back, Jolly’s Convertible has a narrowed 12 bolt Chevrolet rear axle with 2.73 gears. For shoes, the Convertible has polished vintage American Racing Torq-Thrust wheels that look exquisite.
Settling for keeping the body original, Jolly made no modifications to the immaculate Convertible. Keeping on the topic of the body, this Chevy Convertible is pre solid maroon custom blend.
We can’t argue with the results as Jolly’s Convertible holds a very vintage, classic feel. As beautiful as the outside is, inside the Convertible it only gets better.
Observing the immaculate and plush interior, the tan and maroon combo complement each other nicely. Complete with a stock seat, the tan leather is plush and the tilt wheel also adds a slight modern touch to the 88 year old classic car.
With most enthusiasts aspiring to update their old school rods and classic cars, Jay Jolly has kept the old school look throughout with gauges, radio, and switches. There may not be anything on this Chevy convertible that screams for attention, but its unmodified body and strong engine give adequate performance to an old car.
We appreciate the condition and attention to detail on this immaculate Chevy. The custom paint and choice modifications have resulted in a great looking classic vehicle.
