Aaron Brown of The Garage Shop in Catawba, North Carolina, has spent the majority of his life building and fabricating unique and imaginative cars and trucks. However, his most recent build, dubbed “The Catchable”, separates itself from the rest.
“I wanted something unique, something that has never been done before,” said Brown. “I spent weeks searching the internet and making hundreds of calls to find the perfect vehicle. Then I found it on RacingJunk.com, deep the in heart of Texas, a 1939 Ford and I knew that was the vehicle.”
“The Uncatchable” is a street legal, land speed rat rod, that was built from the ground up in Brown’s shop over an eight month timespan. Brown initially thought of the build back in 2013 at the Charlotte Auto Fair.
I wanted to honor the pioneers of speed who built these hot rods in their garages using whatever parts they could find. Aaron Brown
Brown has always garnered interest with kustoms, but after sifting through the magazines, he developed a clearer understanding and respect for hot rods.
“I wanted to honor the pioneers of speed who built these hot rods in their garages using whatever parts they could find,” said Brown.
“They spent every dime they had and built these machines on their dirt floor garages. We wanted to keep that tradition alive so we went with the Ford truck.”
Brown has a decorated background, serving as a NASCAR fabricator, which led him to implementing current NASCAR technology with old school hot rod concepts. Intertwining two separate car cultures is one daring expedition for any car enthusiast to take. However, Brown has built one speedy truck that won’t go unnoticed wherever it goes.
“The Uncatchable is the first of its kind,” said Brown. “A lot of people build outdated Cup cars for land speed racing or they build hot rods, but no one has combined that technology to build a vehicle like The Uncatchable.”
Being involved in the NASCAR scene since the early 90s, Brown helped build a land speed car that in 2007 set the flying mile record with a 244.9mph pass, which still stands to this day. He has spent time working with some of the top teams in NASCAR including Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Ray Evernham.
“The Uncatchable” made its debut at the Charlotte Auto Fair this past April, becoming an instant hit with the fans. The truck turned heads, with spectators taking several pictures for fans to take home as a memento.
Since May, Brown’s truck has competed twice at the Ohio Mile, setting multiple records simultaneously. This is just the beginning of great success story, and everyone can follow along by checking out The Garage Shop FaceBook page to learn more about this unique truck and where its headed next.
Maybe this kustom is one truck that is truly uncatchable. Anyone chasing record books and other speed accolades better be looking in their rear view mirror, because Brown is coming with sheer speed and utter aggression.
